A Project for the Center for the Mentally Ill
We were able to get approval for a project that provides furniture coverings for the Center for the Mentally Ill in Mindelo
Sister Erickson and Odeth are putting the new coverings on the furniture. |
This project actually served a couple of purposes. Not only does the Center look a little nicer but Odeth, the lady in orange, is trying to start a sewing business and we were able to have her make the coverings. Once her business is established with all of the necessary permits, then the city will give her three industrial sewing machines.
These coverings can easily be removed and washed as necessary. |
The larger sofas were covered with grey cloth. |
The center provides a home for over forty patients. They have bedrooms, a kitchen with a dining area and a living area.
In addition to this project, LDS Charities has previously provided hand grips in the showers and a large washing machine. |
This amphitheater is behind the living area and some of the patients spend their time here.
As part of our project, we have received funding to provide paint for this area. |
This woman is enjoying the new coverings. |
Carnival is Around the Corner
Preparations and practice for Carnival have begun.
This procession came down the street next to our apartment today. |
These events have been happening since January.
The costumes can get quite elaborate. |
There is always the incessant beating of drums.
A great African warrior. |

This senior couple works in the Italy-Milan mission with refugees. |
A Week of Illness
Unfortunately both Sister Erickson and I have been feeling ill for a portion of the week. Sister Erickson was down at the beginning of the week and I was down yesterday. Fortunately we are beginning to feel better but we did not feel well enough to have a set of missionaries over for dinner this week.
However tomorrow is another day....
