A Mission Tour with Elder and Sister Sabin
Elder and Sister Sabin arrive for a mission tour.
Missionaries from the islands of Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau and Sal. |
Elder and Sister Sabin are from San Diego. Currently they are serving in the Europe Area Presidency at the area offices in Frankfurt, Germany. Elder Sabin is a General Authority Seventy.

This was our first mission tour. Definitely a spiritual feast.

Dental Kits
After the mission tour we spent a day on the island of Santo Antão visiting the schools that received the dental kits provided by LDS Charities.
Each kit contained a toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste and a bar of soap. For some of these kids this was their first toothbrush.
These are the fourth, fifth and sixth graders. |
This was one of the schools fairly high in the mountains. The school district is making a concerted effort to introduce health care, dental care and nutrition into all primary schools.
The first graders were excited to get their kits. |
Our trip back down the mountain. |
Nilça gets a New Roof
The Mindelo 3rd ward turned out to 'light the community' by building a new roof for a needy member.
Nilça's home is the pink house. She lives here with three of her children. |
Bishop Timothy (back to us on the left) and members of the Elders Quorum build the rafters. |
Elder Edu from Nigeria and Elder Fermino from Brazil. |
Nilça's two boys were great helpers. Now they have a good roof over their heads.
Note the hammer. All the bent nails were saved. |
A Few Random Pictures

The Couple of the Week
Elder and Sister Smith are from Utah and previously from the San Francisco area. We were in the same district at the Mission Training Center in Provo.
They are in Zimbabwe serving as humanitarian missionaries as well as helping in the mission office. The Zimbabwe economy has collapsed and boy do they have interesting stories to tell. |
After the mission tour we had these two missionaries over for a light meal.
Our tradition of having Sunday dinner with a companionship of missionaries continues.
Elder Mugimbo from Angola and Elder Floyd from Northern California. |
Thanks for posting more photos of your adventures, and friends. When you get home, lets work on getting your blog reduced to a digital record for preservation in the Church Archives.
ReplyDeletePlease give Elder David Edu a big abraco. I met him at the MTC last spring, and hoped he would meet up with you in Mindelo sooner or later.
Thanks for all you do. Merry Christmas
