The Saints in Mindelo Part 2

The Strength of the Church in Cape Verde
On Saturday we were pleasantly surprised as we attended a baptismal service for a young boy who had just turned 8 years old.  He was baptized by his father.  During the service the mother and daughter stood and sang a special musical number.  The bishop presided at the service which was conducted by a member of the ward.  There were no missionaries present except for Sister Erickson and myself.

Today, Sunday, we attended that ward and watched as the father confirmed his son a member of the Church and bestowed the Gift of the Holy Ghost.  In that same sacrament meeting a newborn baby was blessed.  We continue to marvel at how well the relatively young members of the Church perform their duties and strive to live the principles of the Gospel.
A young family.  The father baptized his son.

''...Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea..."
2 Nephi 29:7

On our way to the baptism, we saw this beautiful tree in full bloom.

Working with the Missionaries

This week was mostly spent working with the missionaries.  We had 15 missionary visas that had to be renewed.  Tomorrow we will finally get to pick up the completed passports.

On Friday we inspected the ten missionary apartments in Mindelo.  The first three apartments had sisters and were in great shape.  However from there it went downhill.  One companionship forgot that we were coming and were so embarrassed with their apartment.  After we left they cleaned for several hours and then called us back to ask if we can do another inspection.  We will return tomorrow.

Sister Stone and Sister Christopherson.  Two more amazing stories about how they decided to serve their missions.

Trivia question:
How can you tell if a Sister missionary serves in Cape Verde?  Answer below.
By the sandal tan stripes on her feet.

Thanks to Sister Ashby and Sister Silva for being models.  All the sisters wear sandals and all of their feet look exactly like this.
