Life in Cabo Verde #1

Another week and another adventure.  This week we helped four missionaries renew their visas.  We had to make five different trips to the National Police to complete all of the documents.  We now have a pretty good idea how to get it done.  We were told to return on Thursday which we did.  However the documents were not ready so they told us to return on Friday.  We returned on Friday only to find out that the documents were still not ready.  Then they told us that on Monday morning they would be done for sure and indeed they were.

An interesting aspect about shopping in Cabo Verde is that the grocery stores sell very few products.  However one week you may find what you want and then the following week you return to get the same thing only to find out that something else is in its place.  So when we find something we like, we stock up on it. Yesterday we went to three stores to find lemons and each one was out.

Today we had one set of Sister missionaries over for dinner.  Sister Ashby is from West Valley, Utah and Sister Pereira is from Brazil near Recife.

Mindelo East Zone Conference in the Chapel of the City.  Presidente Amo, Sister Amo and the Assistants to the President (not pictured) gave a great conference.

Here are two of the chapels in Mindelo

Chapel of the City.  This was built and is owned by the Church.  Wards 1 and 3 meet here.  Notice the volcanic cobblestones.  Most of the roads and sidewalks are made out of these cobblestones.

This is a rented chapel.  Wards 2 and 5 meet on the third floor.

Bishop Cesar Ribeiro, his wife Carla and four of their five children, Jainira, Ariel, Kailly and Mauro.  Ward 5.
Janilo Pinheiro (Pine Tree) who is preparing to serve a mission.  He is one of seven ward missionaries who go out with the regular missionaries each day.

This is George Washington mountain.  With a little imagination you can see his forehead on the right along with his nose and chin.
Each Saturday we spend the afternoon attending baptismal services for new converts.  Pictures of two converts who were baptized yesterday are shown below.

  2. GREAT Photos of my friends. Cesar Ribeiro was one of our early converts there, along with President Cesar Fortes and his brother Joselito Neves. Please give them my love and appreciation. and when you get to Cha da Marinha, please give the Silvas my love too. they were the first couple to join the church in 1991. He is now stake patriarch
